Admission Criteria

To be considered for admission into International Foundation, students must meet both English language and academic entry criteria and send a completed application form to International Admissions.

English Language

For admission to International Foundation, students would need to achieve any of the following as proof of their English language proficiency:

  1. IELTS: overall score of 5.5 (with no individual band less than 5.0); or
  2. TOEFL - Computer-based test: 193 with a TWE minimum score of 4.0; or
  3. TOEFL - Internet-based test: 71 with a minimum score of 16 in Writing; or
  4. TOEFL - Paper-based test: 525 with a TWE minimum score of 4.0; or
  5. GCE 'O' Levels: C6; or
  6. SPM English: B4; or
  7. UEC Senior 2 English: B3; or
  8. HKCEE English: C (Minimum D in Writing); or
  9. HKALE Use of English: E.

Students, who do not meet the entry requirements to International Foundation because of English language proficiency, may consider the preparatory programs offered by the University of Newcastle's Language Centre.

Note: The grades listed in the table below should be used as a guide only. Qualifications from countries that are not listed will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
