Learning Support Services

University Libraries

The University Libraries offer a wide range of materials in a variety of formats - from traditional books and serials to films, multimedia and networked information from around the world. Highly skilled staff assist students to use the local collections and find information on specific topics. A library coordinator for international students offers specialist support.

Computing Facilities

The University boasts a campus-wide, fibre-optic information network that provides access to several on-line specialist and public domain information services. Access to Internet services can be gained through the University's libraries as well as discipline-based computing networks. Email accounts are also available for individual students.

Student Support

In all social and support services, the University has the interests and enjoyment of its students at heart.

Welfare Service

The International Student Support team assists international students with any practical or personal matters they may encounter in their new life in Australia. The aim is to offer sympathetic, confidential and practical help as soon as possible to all international students requiring assistance in order to make their stay a rich and academically rewarding experience.

Health Service

The University's excellent medical service specialises in student health needs. The health service provides medical care to all students and the compulsory overseas student health cover meets the full cost of most consultations.

Counselling

The University Counselling Service helps students with personal problems, such as stress, interpersonal relationships, family difficulties and any problems associated with settling into life in Australia. Counselling is free and completely confidential.

Community Services for International Students

Community services for international students have a focus on linking international students more closely to the University and wider community. Through the International Student Care Program, international students are offered the opportunity to make Australian friends and to feel part of an Australian family. Students are introduced to volunteers, who invite them to their homes, include them in everyday activities and show them around the local area. Hundreds of international students have participated in this program since 1997, with many strong friendships continuing after the international students have returned home.

The Family Care Program is a program specifically designed to assist the spouses of international students. Through this program, participants are able to practise and improve their English skills, learn more about the local community and make friends.
