The Language Centre, University of Newcastle is an IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Centre.
IELTS is the standard test of English for students who intend to study in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. IELTS provides a reliable assessment of a candidate's ability to read, write, speak and listen in English. Detailed information about the IELTS organisation and application forms can be found at http://www.ielts.org/
There are two IELTS Test Modules:
Academic Module - widely recognised as a language requirement for professional registration and for entry to all courses in further and higher education. This test assesses whether a candidate is ready to work at a professional level or to study or train in the medium of English at an undergraduate or postgraduate level.
General Training Module - is suitable for candidates who are going to English-speaking countries to complete their secondary education, undertake training programs or for immigration purposes.
The Language Centre holds combined Academic and General IELTS Training Tests 12 times per year. Tests are usually on Saturdays and some Thursdays. In 2009, additional Academic Only dates will be available on Thursday 12th February, Thursday 13th August and Thursday 14th November.
