The University's two campuses are close to beaches, waterways and bushland.
The campus at Callaghan is 12 kilometres from Newcastle's centre and is well served by public transport and freeway access. As well as a range of Urban Transit buses from Newcastle and its suburbs, students can catch private buses from Port Stephens, the Hunter Valley and Lake Macquarie. Warabrook railway station, a five minute walk from the campus, is on the Newcastle/Maitland/Upper Hunter line. The University also has a presence in the Newcastle Central Business District with the Graduate School of Business and the Community Legal Centre at University House, and the Conservatorium School of Music and Drama. The Faculty of Health has major clinical, teaching and research facilities at several hospitals and health centres in the Hunter and Central Coast regions.
The Central Coast Campuses are a joint venture of the University of Newcastle, Hunter Institute - TAFE NSW and the Central Coast Community College. The main campus is at Ourimbah, situated about halfway between Newcastle and Sydney and is easily reached by freeway and rail. The Ourimbah railway station, which is a 10 minute walk from the campus, is on the Sydney/Central Coast/Newcastle line. A bus service operates from Gosford and Wyong.
