Going Straight Into Second Year

If you've completed any of the courses listed below, you will have completed the requirements for year one of your degree at the University of Newcastle and go straight into second year. Remember 80 units is equal to one year's full time study.

Admission to universities is competitive. Although you may have completed a course at another institution, admission to a University program is not guaranteed - it will still be on a competitive basis. The credit transfer arrangements outlined in these webpages apply only after you are offered a place at the University of Newcastle and accept that offer.

What do 1000, 2000 and 3000 level specified and unspecified courses mean?

On this website, you will note that the credit is either specified or unspecified. If it is specified it means that the course for which you are given credit is named by the University. If it is unspecified it means that you have some choice within a list of courses nominated by the University.
You will also note that credit is given by the University in either 1000 level, 2000 level or 3000 level courses. A three year University program consists of 240 units. It is usually made up of a maximum number of 1000 level (think first year) and a minimum number of 2000 level (think second year) and 3000 level (think third year) courses. In the Bachelor of Arts program for example, you can only do 80 units of 1000 level courses and the rest must be done at 2000 or 3000 level.
