Sir Ninian Stephen Lecture

The Sir Ninian Stephen Lecture was established in 1993 to mark the arrival of the first group of Bachelor of laws students.The Right Honourable Sir Ninian Stephen, former Governor-General of Australia, delivered the Inaugural lecture bearing his name. The Lecture is delivered by an eminent lawyer at the commencement of each academic year. The distinguished lecturers have chosen to stimulate and inspire students, staff and the local legal community with a diverse range of legal topics and themes.

In 2008, the Sir Ninian Stephen Lecture was delivered by the Honourable John Basten, Justice of Appeal of the Supreme Court of NSW at the Newcastle Conservatorium Concert Hall The title of the lecture for 2008 was "Human Rights and the Rule of Law".
