Research
Research activities within the Faculty of Education & Arts centre around our Schools, and on the disciplines within many of the Schools. In addition, we support a number of specialised Centres and publish a variety of online journals.
Working together to benefit the community
Our research is collaborative and builds on the strong links already forged with our community and region. Our ArtsHealth Centre for Research and Practice brings together researchers from creative arts, health and allied disciplines to investigate and promote the roles of arts in individual health and healthy functioning communities.
Another exciting development is the Hunter in Transition (HIT) Database project, which seeks to develop a database of research findings that is accessible by the whole community. A Steering Group has been formed and grants applied for to undertake infrastructure development. The Faculty of Education and Arts supports this and other community-based research initiatives.
Building on our research strengths
Following a review of the focus of the University's research since 2002, our faculty has identified a number of key thematic research areas on which to focus research done in the faculty. These research areas are in addition to the interdisciplinary and cross-faculty research activities conducted by our groups and centres. In the Faculty of Education and Arts, our research themes include:
- Socio-Cultural Order and Change
- Educational Innovation and Impact
- Indigenous Knowledges
Research within the Faculty falls under the responsibility of the Research Committee and Research Training Committees, which report to and advise the Pro Vice-Chancellor. The Assistant Deans (Research and Research Training) chair the Faculty committees and are members of the University committees.
