Industrial Experience Information

Important Please Note:
To be eligible for graduation at the 2008 October Graduation ceremony, students must submit their completed Industrial Experience reports to their Industrial Experience Coordinator by Friday 25th July.

Industrial Experience Policy

Currently one of the requirements for the qualification for the award of the Bachelor of Engineering is that students must complete at least 12 weeks industrial experience.

Students enrolled in Bachelor of Engineering programs are required to complete a total of at least 12 weeks of practical work of a nature acceptable to the Faculty Board.

To verify that they have completed this requirement, students will be required to provide a statement of their experience signed by the employer, and submit a report to the relevant Industrial Experience Co-ordinator for each block of practical work undertaken. The Industrial Experience Co-ordinator will advise Student Services whether or not the practical work is satisfactory.

Verification of Industrial Experience

Students are required to verify that they have met the 12 week practical work requirement by providing their Industrial Experience Co-ordinator (at the end of each block of practical work) with:

  1. a statement of their experience signed by the employer/s;
  2. an annual report on the work carried out for each block of practical work undertaken;
  3. an Industrial Experience Diary maintained for the duration of (all blocks of) the practical work. Although no standard format is required, it is suggested that regular entries are made. The regularity of entries may depend on the nature and variability of the experience being obtained. The Industrial Experience diary must be available for review with the final report.

Further information is provided in the related Industrial Experience web pages.

UNISS Scholars

Students who are awarded a UNISS scholarship are required to complete more than 12 weeks industry placement as part of their scholarship provisions. UNISS Scholars must also submit the following:

  • Industrial Experience Report (coversheet only). These may be collected from School Offices, and must clearly identify the student as a ‘UNISS Scholar’.   [UNISS Placement reports by both the scholar and the sponsor company will be made available to Industrial Experience Coordinators by request.]
