Shooting for the stars in Shoot Out Film Festival
A University of Newcastle student and young director of "The Alibi", a film made for the recent Shoot Out Film Festival, says he is 'stoked' to have his film selected as one of the top ten.

Canberra gives the nod to additional places for joint University rural medical school
The University of Newcastle and The University of New England welcomed the Prime Minister's announcement today indicating the Australian Government's support for an additional 80 Commonwealth-supported medical places for the Universities to establish a joint medical program.

Newcastle smashes competition at the Eastern University Games
The University of Newcastle has placed third overall at the Eastern University Games in Coffs Harbour. 286 athletes in 24 teams representing 15 sports participated in the Games, in which universities from across New South Wales and the ACT compete against each other.

Key Faculty of Health appointments announced
Health and medical research at the University of Newcastle will be strengthened following the appointments of Professor John Rostas and Professor Margaret McMillan to key positions in the Faculty of Health.

A graduate of the University of Newcastle recently won a top advertising award for his work on the McDonalds Feed Your Inner Child advertisements.
Matthew Ryan, 24, from Valentine, holds a Bachelor of Design (Visual Communication) from the University of Newcastle, and was the Art Director in a team which won a Bronze Cannes Lion advertising award in the film section.

University welcomes additional Commonwealth places
The University of Newcastle has welcomed today's announcement that it will receive an additional 264 Commonwealth supported places from 2007. The University received more additional places than any other university in New South Wales, in the disciplines of health, science and education.

University announces more computers for students
The University of Newcastle will install 86 new OptiPlex Desktop PCs in the libraries at the Callaghan and Ourimbah campuses thanks to sponsorship from Dell Australia. University Librarian Greg Anderson said the sponsorship was great news and would add to the University's growing computing resources.
