Annual event raises support for Indigenous students

Monday 26 May 2008

The University of Newcastle, a recognised national leader in Indigenous collaboration, will host its annual Reconciliation Scholarship Dinner Dance this week.

The event will raise funds for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship Fund. Professor John Maynard, Head of the Wollotuka School of Aboriginal Studies, said the University was working towards a $1 million fund to support students through full-time study.

"The University of Newcastle is recognised as a national leader for its active support of the aspirations of Indigenous people through access to higher education," Professor Maynard said.

"It's vital that we continue to support our Indigenous students as they take knowledge back to their communities and inspire others."
