Dinner to launch local education initiative

An initiative targeted towards Central Coast residents with a keen interest in education, training and research will be launched at a dinner in October.

The Central Coast Campus Friends has been established to bring together like-minded locals for an exchange of views and ideas on the role education, especially at the post-school level, plays in the social, economic and environmental future of the region.

Central Coast Campus Advisory Board member Sonnie Hopkins said the 'Friends' will focus on programs run locally by University of Newcastle, NSW TAFE Hunter Institute and the Central Coast Community College.

"The initiative seeks to bring together residents of the Central Coast who have a particular interest in training, post-secondary education and research," she said.

"A key aim of the Central Coast Campus Friends is to facilitate better communication between the three sectors and the broader community.

"We also intend to sponsor student awards to encourage high quality learning for our local students."

To launch the 'Friends', a dinner will be held at the TAFE-run Preview Restaurant located at the Ourimbah campus on Wednesday 22 October at 7pm.

The dinner is an opportunity to discuss the future activities of the group.

It will feature an address by Professor Stephen Crump, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Director, the University of Newcastle, Central Coast campus, about the future directions planned for the campus and cross-sector partnership.
