Welcome

Primarily based in the School of Education at the University of Newcastle, the Centre for Professional Learning in Education (CPLE) is focussed on conducting high quality research that informs educational policy and practice as well as some of educational research’s most enduring problems, particularly in the fields of:

- Teacher and leadership development;
- Quality and innovation in pedagogy, curriculum, and assessment at all levels of education; and,
- Enhanced and more equitable educational and other outcomes for all students.

The Centre also plays a major role in research training with over 35 current research higher degree students currently associated with Centre staff.

Centre staff members are also very active in providing consultancy and hosting conferences in areas associated with our research programs. These aspects of CPLE activity are focussed on contributing in deep and substantial ways to the professional learning of educators.

The CPLE is a highly productive research centre with considerable research grant and publication success as well as strong connections with relevant professional bodies. The impact of the CPLE’s work is also high with some of its research programs leading to outstanding benefits for teachers and students throughout NSW and elsewhere.
