The Australian Competition Policy Research Alliance

Providing a unique research and consulting centre, ACPRA brings together local, national and international researchers, and leading experts from the public and private sectors. Through research, public forums and seminars, and commercial consulting, ACPRA consolidates the region’s expertise and resources into a unique hub. The focus is on applied outcomes and debate on how to redefine and improve the policy and regulatory environment, including the underlying culture and practices of regulatory bodies, agencies and departments.

ACPRA IN ACTION

Education, health, planning and development strongly influence both national and regional economies. These issues top ACPRA’s initial agenda. With a focus on the role of government regulation of these industries, ACPRA will:

  • Identify inefficiencies from duplication and complexity of regulatory structures and processes at all levels of government.
  • Examine the temporal and practical relevance of regulatory and legislative instruments.
  • Measure the impact of inefficiencies on productivity, business efficiency and service provision.
  • Propose alternative policies to streamline regulation, and promote economic growth and improved service delivery.

ACPRA is seeking to build partnerships with organisations that foster and act on a commitment to improving not only their organisation, but the communities in which they operate.

"Working with local and global industries to develop innovative solutions for shared challenges is a key driver in the University of Newcastle's research success.  Over more than 40 years, the University has provided corporate partners with independent expert advice and solutions.  ACPRA is another example of the Universiity working with the region to share expertise and develop a shared way forward."

Professor Barney Glover, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) and Chair, ACPRA.
