The Commonwealth Government is providing funds to support research commercialisation training for a limited number of domestic Research Higher Degree students. The scheme is NOT available to international students. Please refer to the information sheet , application form and scholarship conditions. Applications close on 20 March 2008.
Australian Postgraduate Awards are funded by the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) of the Australian Government and are available to candidates undertaking a full-time research Master's or PhD degree. Applicants must be Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens or permanent residents of Australia. These awards provide a living allowance ($20,007 p.a. in 2008), a relocation allowance (if necessary) and a thesis allowance.
Duration: three years for a PhD degree, two years for a Master's degree.
Applications close 31 October each year.
These scholarships are tenable for two years for Master’s degree candidates and three years for PhD candidates, subject to satisfactory academic progress. These awards provide a living allowance ($20,007 p.a. in 2008), and may also provide a relocation allowance and thesis allowance for the candidate.

Australian Postgraduate Award Industry are awarded as part of an Australian Research Council Grant and are available to candidates undertaking a full-time research Master's or PhD degree. Applicants must be Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens or permanent residents of Australia. These awards provide a living allowance ($26,140 p.a. in 2008), a relocation allowance and a thesis allowance.
Duration: three years for a PhD degree, two years for a Master's degree.

The Gowrie Trust Fund Research Scholarship is available to research students who are Australian citizens or permanent residents who are Australian soldiers, or their lineal descendants. Faculty of Science & Information Technology Indigenous Postgraduate Research Award
The Indigenous Postgraduate Research Award is available to candidates undertaking a full-time research Masters or Doctor of Philosophy degree within the Faculty of Science and Information Technology.
Applicants must be Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and Australian citizens.
The successful applicant will receive a living allowance of AUD $20,007 per annum (2008 rate).
Duration: Three (3) years for a PhD or two (2) years for a Masters by Research degree.

For International Students
The Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) of the Australian Government offers Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (Endeavour IPRS) to support international students in high quality research programs at Australian universities. These scholarships cover the full tuition fee and medical insurance for a period of two years for a Master's degree and three years for a Doctoral degree. Recipients of an Endeavour IPRS will also be awarded a University of Newcastle Research Scholarship which provides a living allowance ($20,007 p.a. in 2008), a relocation allowance and a thesis allowance.

Environmental Engineering Scholarship
A stochastic space-time model of rainfall fields in large heterogeneous regionsThe Discipline of Environmental Engineering at the University of Newcastle has an ARC funded scholarship available involving the development and implementation of computer models for hydrologic applications. The successful applicant will receive a stipend of AUD 25,000 (per annum). This scholarship is paid fortnightly for a period of 3 years.
