Head of School's Welcome
The University of Newcastle's School of Biomedical Sciences is one of the most successful in Australia in terms of obtaining research funding from agencies such as the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). Our external research income now exceeds $10m per year and we have nearly 70 research higher degree students enrolled in PhDs. Moreover, in the most recent NHMRC project grant round the School's success rate was 40%, well above the national average of approximately 27%.
Although very focused on maintaining its research-intensive profile, the School also prides itself on the delivery of high quality undergraduate and postgraduate course-work programs. The School has primary responsibility for the Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences program and the Masters of Pharmacy program, the latter being established in 2004 as the first postgraduate Pharmacy training program in Australia. The School also teaches into a wide range of other health-related programs, including Medicine, Physiotherapy, Nutrition & Dietetics, Medical Radiation Science, and Nursing.
I welcome you to the School of Biomedical Sciences and encourage you to contact us with any questions or comments that you may have after looking at our web pages.
