School Collaboration
While the School of Drama, Fine Art and Music (incorporating the Conservatorium) is renowned for expertise in specific disciplinary areas, these is also opportunity for interdisciplinary and crossover activities. Digital media creation, new art forms, creative ideas and hybridised performance outcomes are all elements of the process. The School caters for a wide range of the creative and performance arts and is always examining new collaborative opportunities. Past projects have included (for example) collaborative performances between music and drama (eg. operatic and staged productions), mixed media concerts and an interesting collaboration between music composition and art (eg. the Back to the City exhibition).
One example of collaboration with fields outside of the immediate realm of creative arts is the establishment of the ArtsHealth Centre for Research and Practice. The centre brings together the research of academics and postgraduate students in the creative arts with those of academics in the social sciences, sciences, humanities, education, architecture and medicine to focus on studies that investigate and promote community health and public and community-based arts and the development of culturally rich and sustainable social environments.
The School also collaborates with a number of independent external bodies and industry groups to produce concerts, exhibitions and events. Where possible, activities include student participation to enhance learning opportunities and broaden their perception of, and experience with, the creative arts.
