Primary Teaching

The Primary Teaching programs in the School of Education aim to develop graduates who have the knowledge, skills and dispositions necessary for a highly successful career in teaching. Graduates of our Primary programs will be able to seek employment as K-6 (Primary) teachers in and beyond the New South Wales (NSW) Government, Catholic, and Independent school sectors.

Primary Teaching programs involve a combination of Educational Foundation Studies, Key Learning Area (KLA) or Curriculum Studies, Discipline Studies, and Professional Studies. Primary Teaching degrees develop generalist teachers, capable of teaching English, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Creative Arts, Human Society and Its Environment, Personal Development, Health and Physical Education.

Students may study Primary teaching as an initial degree through enrolment in the four-year Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Arts (Callaghan or Ourimbah) program or may elect to enter the two-year Master of Teaching (Primary) program after completing a suitable undergraduate degree. (Suitable undergraduate degrees require the equivalent of two courses in four areas related to the NSW Board of Studies' Key Learning Areas or four courses in one related area plus two courses in two other related areas).
