Secondary Teaching
The Secondary Teaching programs in the School of Education aim to develop graduates who have the knowledge, skills and dispositions necessary for a highly successful career in teaching. Graduates of our Secondary programs will be able to seek employment as 7-12 (Secondary) teachers in and beyond the New South Wales (NSW) Government, Catholic, and Independent school sectors.
Secondary Teaching programs involve a combination of Educational Foundation Studies, Specialist Curriculum Studies, Discipline Studies, and Professional Pedagogy Studies. Students studying Secondary Teaching at the University of Newcastle may specialise as teachers of:

* Can only be taken as a second teaching area, due to the NSW curriculum structure.
Students may study Secondary Teaching as an initial degree through enrolment in a four-year Bachelor of Teaching double-degree program, a Bachelor of Education upgrade and retraining program, or may elect to enter the two-year Master of Teaching (Secondary) program after completing a suitable undergraduate degree in which they have studied the equivalent of six courses in one discipline area (of which 4 courses must be at 200-level of above), and four courses in a second discipline area (of which 2 courses must be at 200-level of above).
