Careers in applied science focus on the application of knowledge from natural scientific fields to solve practical problems. Since these are so diverse, please follow the links under the broad outlines to access detailed information about each area we specialise in.

Exercise and Sport Science

Graduates of the Sports Science degree can pursue careers with both the public and private sectors in a variety of roles. A research career is also an option if the graduate completes an honours degree and then a higher degree. Depending on the specific focus you take, broad areas of employment include: Health; Medical/Clinical; Exercise Science; Fitness Industry; Recreation/ Activity officer; Medical Sales/ Representative; Sport Psychologist and many others.

Food Science and Human Nutrition

There are a range of opportunities for graduates: Food Scientists and nutritionist in the food industry and in community health; Nutrition education; Professional positions in consumer relations and technical sales; Product development in food and pharmaceutical industry; Quality control and quality assurance; Nutrition consultancy; Food services management; and Research positions in universities, including the opportunity for post-graduate study

Marine Science

The major in Marine Science provides the skills required to work in a range of occupations that deal with marine and estuarine environments. It exposes students to the study of a variety of types of natural marine ecosystems and their inhabitants as well as those found in commercial aquaculture. Skills are developed across the processes of scientific observation, data collection and analysis and project design and management.

Sustainable Resource Management

The Sustainable Resource Management major familiarises students with key issues and management strategies for natural resources. This course of study provides an understanding of biodiversity and various ecosystems such as those of our waterways and natural flora. An understanding and appreciation of how human life interacts with and impacts on the natural environment is also gained as are practical scientific skills.

Graduates are equipped to advise and consult on policy and planning issues relating to resource management and may find employment in Federal and State government departments (national parks and wildlife, land and water management, agriculture, EPA, public works and forestry), in Local government (strategic planning groups, sustainability, development control, land and water management); in private industry (as a consultant on environmental and sustainable resource matters); in non-governmental organizations; and in research organisations such as agriculture, forestry, livestock and soil management.
