Biological Sciences
Career Options

With three programs focussing on the Biological Sciences, there are a wide range of career options available. In many cases these overlap - someone interested in Microbiology or Drug Discovery could arrive via either a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Biotechnology - however the disciplined skills that you bring to the workplace from differing paths will vary the nature of your expertise and the focus of your activities.

Just a few examples of the overlapping career directions afforded by the degree programs and majors relevant to the Biological Sciences are:

Bachelor of Science (Biological Sciences major)
Biology, Molecular Genetics, Hospital Scientist, Microbiology, Reproductive Biology, Drug Discovery, Environment, Ecology, Conservation Biology, Biodiversity, Plant Sciences, Plant Biotechnology, Animal Sciences, Ecotoxicology, Mine Land Rehabilitation

Bachelor of Biotechnology
Biotechnology, Molecular Genetics, Hospital Scientist, Microbiology, Reproductive Biology, Drug Discovery, Plant Sciences, Plant Biotechnology

Bachelor of Environmental Science and Management
Environment, Ecology, Conservation Biology, Biodiversity, Plant Sciences, Animal Sciences, Ecotoxicology, Mine Land Rehabilitation

The Careers Service at the University has also prepared an overview of careers, employers, organisations and associations of interest to students who complete the Biological Sciences major in the Bachelor of Science. They also provide a free and confidential service to all students and graduates of the University, with staff available to assist with a range of comprehensive careers and employment information and advice about careers, study and employment.

In the Choosing your Courses page in this site is additional information to help you select the courses that will prepare you for either specific or generalised career paths, or to move into research if this is your preference.
