Honours Year

The Honours year is your opportunity to make creative use of the information you have acquired during your first 3 years of study. It should be an exciting, fulfilling experience, and for those with imagination, drive and an aptitude for problem solving, the Honours year will provide a logical point of entry into a research career.

Even if you ultimately discover that a career in research is not for you, an Honours degree will provide you with fundamental skills that are valued in the workplace and enhance your chances of finding a job; the unemployment rate amongst our Honours graduates is essentially zero.

Students interested in undertaking Honours should contact staff in their area of research interest or the Discipline Honours Coordinator.

Students considering honours in 2008 should read the attached Biological Sciences Honours Handbook and the SELS Procedure for Processing Honours Applications.

The Discipline or its research groups may offer a limited number of Honours Scholarships. The University and Faculty of Science and Information Technology also offer a series of Honours Scholarships amongst a range of Research Student Support Schemes and Scholarships for which students can apply.

Students undertaking Honours with our staff conduct research across a variety of projects, some of which are connected to ongoing funded research projects. Examples of research areas and/or projects offered by each of the major research groups can be viewed at:
