Help with your Studies
Help for students is available in many forms: from finding tutors and assistance with learning skills, to financial and social support.
The primary location of online information and resources for our students is the FSCIT STUDENT GUIDE in Blackboard, which requires an active student account to view.
Specific enquiries about Degree Programs and Courses should be directed to the appropriate Program Convenor or Student HUB Officer as listed in Our Staff.
Suggestions for getting the most out of your chemistry courses:
- Tutorial work or problem solving is integrated into each course. Make sure you attend these sessions and attempt any set work before class.
- Buy the recommended text book and read it.
- You can ask your lecturer questions about particular concepts you don't understand.
- You can do the problems from the text book - see if a solutions manual is available, in the library or for sale.
- Lecturers are happy to answer questions about particular problems (textbook questions) that you have been working on.
- Use the resources that may be available via your text book's publishers web pages. They often have questions / quizzes which give hints or direct you to the particular part of the textbook that provides the information needed to answer the question.
- Perhaps have a look at some similar chemistry textbooks available in the library / short loans and see if a different style of presentation helps. You might find the book "Maths for Chemistry" by Paul Monk useful with the maths. Note that chemistry textbooks usually have a bit of a maths tutorial at the end, in the appendices.
Students are also encouraged to review the full range of Scholarships available for students in both undergraduate and postgraduate coursework and in research higher degrees.
