Why did you choose to study Clinical Psychology at Newcastle?
I completed my undergraduate degree here, enjoyed my experiences. I believe Newcastle has great reputation for research and the staff I work with are leaders in their field. The campus is great. I prefer it to a 'city' campus, it's a more relaxed/calm environment. I also have family and friends in the Region, which will be a big influence on my ability to study/finish my degree.

What was the best thing about the Psychology program?
I'm doing the Clinical PhD in Psychology so I get the best of both worlds in respect to further study in research methodology and practices as well as obtaining clinical knowledge and skills. It greatly enhances my career prospects.

How did you find the support and service of staff at the University?
Since graduating and starting my postgrad research the staff have been exceptional! I have never had to ask twice about anything, everyone is very professional but also friendly and easygoing. I am very glad I decided to stick with the University. My experience so far has been great. I have much admiration for the Academic staff that I have been working closely with.

Where are you currently working and what are you currently doing? How has your Psychology degree helped you in your professional life?
I currently work for the University as a Research Assistant for the School of Psychology and as a Tutor for the Wollotuka School of Aboriginal Studies. I also work for Uniting Care supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities and mental health issues. My degree has helped in respects to increasing knowledge of issues faced by these groups, as well as strategies to implement in managing behaviours etc. My degree has allowed me to complete further research and gain recognition by professional bodies.

What advice would you give to future students considering studying Psychology at Newcastle?
Go for it! You only regret the things you didn't do.
