Research Centres and Groups

Priority Research Centres

Centre for Brain & Mental Health Research (CBMHR)

The Centre for Brain & Mental Health Research focuses on understanding the basis of individual differences in vulnerability and resilience to brain disorders. Research focuses on four key disease research programs:

  • Schizophrenia
  • Stroke
  • Affective and addictive disorders
  • Chronic pain syndromes.

Research Groups

Clinical & Health Psychology

The Clinical and Health Psychology group is concerned with the application of psychological science and practice to the prevention and treatment of both physical and mental ill-health and employs research primarily at the strategic and applied levels.

Human Experimental & Applied Dynamics (HEAD)

Research in the Human Experimental and Applied Dynamics ranges from basic to applied and emphasises dynamical processes, ranging from response time in choice tasks, recognition memory, social cognition, inter-group relations and the measurement of ethical behaviour.

Neuroscience Research Group

Research conducted by the Neuroscience Group falls into three core areas:

  • Vision and sensory systems incorporating development, plasticity and their evolution;
  • Cognitive Neuroscience, aimed at understanding the neural bases of high-level cognitive functions such as attention, memory, language processes, planning and decision-making;
  • Neuroimmunology, where researchers are looking at how neural by-products can influence peripheral immune suppression and what consequences this has for neural function.
