2008 Careers and Employer Expo Lunch
Tuesday, 8 April 2008, 1:00 - 2:00 pm
Syracusa (Staff House Building)
The Careers Service would like to invite you to attend the Careers and Employer Expo Lunch on Tuesday, 8 April 2008. This is an informal event which will be used to link the two Expo sessions being held that day.
Over 130 organisations have booked to attend this year's Careers Expo and many of the attending representatives have reserved a space at our Expo Lunch.
Employers are keen to meet with staff of the University of Newcastle to gain a better understanding of our academic programs and make connections within the faculties that are relevant to their recruitment strengths.
As an academic staff member the lunch will proved an invaluable forum to:
- meet industry representatives to discuss current employment trends and expectations
- promot the quality and skills of the people teaching at our University
- seek out or create opportunities for research and to forge valuable industry connections
- support the University's commitment to work more closely with the broader community, including industry and graduate recruiters.
To attend, you will need to RSVP by 28 March 2008: email matthew.leonard@newcastle.edu.au
Academic Collaboration
The most popular collaborative activities career staff have been involved with academics, schools, and faculties, at either program or course level are:

-
Current recruitment practices - job applications and interviews
-
- Organisation of discipline specific career expos, seminars or similar events that include employer representation or presentations.
-
Organisation of the annual University Career & Employment Expo. This event not only gives students of the University the option of exploring the range of employment opportunities through direct contact with employer representatives, it is also an invaluable single event opportunity for academics to meet with a wide range of graduate recruiters to discuss:
- Current industry recruitment needs
- Possible industry collaboration – research project options
- Industry scholarships and prizes
- Short presentations in lectures or other Faculty sessions (eg mentoring meetings, orientation sessions) on the career services offered to students of the university.
