We are currently seeking students who would be willing to be student mentors in 2009. The aim of the SOS mentor program is to provide peer support to new students and give them the opportunity to gain from the experiences of others who have “been there”. The SOS student mentors assist by showing new students around and providing them with the information needed to help settle into University life.

Desirable qualities for SOS Mentors

-Successful completion of one calendar year of university study

- An approachable and friendly manner

- Commitment to the program for a full academic year

- Willing to maintain contact with commencing students in a proactive manner

- Willing to attend Mentor training

- Willing to share with others their experiences of being a first year student at the

 University of Newcastle.

Why become a student mentor?

- Personal satisfaction from helping other students

- You will develop leadership and teamwork skills (looks great on the resume)

- Receive training to assist with your role as a mentor.

- Opportunity to make new friends

Not forgetting the $100 book voucher!
