Viewing Documents
Most documents are in TIFF format, and need to be opened in a TIFF viewer.
Installing a free TIFF viewer
PC Users
Most PCs have an inbuilt TIFF viewer, however if you have problems viewing your documents, you may need to install a free TIFF viewer.
This is a simple process and takes only a few minutes.
Instructions
- Go to http://alternatiff.com
- Select one of the install options for either Internet Explorer or Netscape
- Follow the onscreen prompts to install and register the software.
AlternaTIFF may be installed for both Internet Explorer and Netscape.
Be sure to use the appropriate browser when installing the software.
If QuickTime is installed on your PC, follow the steps below to readjust the association preferences for TIFF files.
- Launch the QuickTime program from the windows start menu (also known as AppleQuickTime)
- Click on QuickTime Player, go to Edit > Preferences>QuickTime Preferences.
- From the Browser Plug in window click on the MIME Settings button
- Scroll down the list to find Images
- Expand the tree by clicking on the plus sign
- Scroll down the list to find the TIFF image file
- Be sure to have a blank check box beside TIFF. Click OK.
- Test the change by opening a document from ‘get it’. If the document doesn’t display, then please contact Interlibrary Services
MAC Users
OSX has an inbuilt tiff viewer.
If you are using an older MacOS, please contact Interlibrary Services for other document viewing options.
