It is very difficult to find books in particular formats - eg I want a listing of books available in audiobook format on CD. It would be nice if a format was included in the catelogue - even just for non print media. If this information is available it would be useful to make it clearer how to do it.
We do have a range of material types you can limit searches to but audiobooks is not one of them. This reflects our holdings. We only hold a small number of audio books. The audio books which we do hold are usually in tape format, not on cd and can usually be found by limiting to Sound Recording. Of course Sound Recording also includes many other items - songs, music AND audiobooks.
You will also find several by using the Genre Search and looking for Talking Books and Talking Books for Children and then limit the search to compact disk.
If you use audio book* (2 words) as a keyword search you will find a lot of spoken work recordings (again, limit to compact disk for that format)
A keyword search on audiobook* (1 word) mostly retrieves songs.
If you are doing a general keyword or author search, use Sound Recording as your limit.

I have been trying to get some information for two days. I can't find it on the website, I tried to sms yesterday and only half an answer came back and it didn't help at all, i can't find an email address to write to and when i finally find a phone number I'm just getting a voice message, although admititally today is Saturday. I understand that you are trying to make an efficient way of answering questions, but i miss personal customer service, and it just makes me really frustrated that i have to spend so much time trying to find the answer to two simple questions, when all it needs to take is a three minute phone call.

Re Auchmuty Library. In the print area of the library it would be convenient to have small side tables to place books and paperwork on when copying. In addition to this, there is nowhere in that area (eg sorting shelves) to return the books to. Thanks
Thanks for your feedback .The print area is still being finished so there is some fine tuning to be done. Spacing of machines has taken sometime and we are awaiting some shelving in the area.

The books borrowed from BONUS are not registered in My Reading History. (the records are cleared once the book is returned). It's hard to track down for the reference purpose. I would like to know can the system restore the history?
The Library system software supplier is currently looking into this issue. Due to the structure of these records it does present some difficulties.
BONUS items are not registered in 'My Reading' history as the items are 'virtual' and once the item is returned to the lending institution, the 'virtual' items is removed from your library record. MyReading history only relates to items held in the libraries of Newcastle University.

I am deeply unhappy with the touch-screen monitors used for PIN input at the new automatic check out machines in the Auchmuty library. It seems to be impossible to conceal the displayed keypad efficiently. As a result, someone standing close by will be able to identify the PIN used (despite the fact that the PIN itself is not displayed).
Thankyou for your feedback , I have passed on your concerns to our Library Systems Librarian who is investigating font size on the screens.

I have studied at the uni since 1999 and have found the library to be an absolutely brilliant and organised service. Every time it has satisified my study needs and more often than not has distracted me with other treats! The new setup is great…perhaps the pictures could be of natural scenes rather than more of us..but still well done. So with that preface I offer a suggestion that basically harks back to the old days. Years ago there was an old fashioned clunky continuous roll printer coupled to a few computers that were used for searching the data base. One could print off the info and go searching..very convenient….both at that time and when the bibliography had to be compilied. My suggestion, considering the library's primary function, is to allocate more computers onto which one does not have to log and which can ONLY be used to search the catalogues and connect them to a printer so that searches can be printed out. I understand that all this can be done at home or even with the present setup but dedicated machines would be easier to access. It can be pretty frustrating to just want to quickly check something and the computers are all occupied by long term users. sometimes one's quest for information can often take an unpredictable turn once ones at the coal-face and this might speed things up at those times. But again well done and I'll be back next year!
Thankyou for your generous support of the library service and your feedback regarding the level 3 renovations . There are machines around the library which allow catalogue and database use with out login. Unfortunately the licensing agreements for the databases prevent us providing a print facility. Also the machines are designed for use by non University community members and visitors who do not have print accounts . Print accounts are linked to enrolment or staff membership of the University.
