Tried to renew library items checked out this morning (7:00am), but keep on getting message: " Your record is in use by system.  Please try again ". Had received the same message last night at 11:30. I was under the impression the system backs up the library catalogue from 10pm till 1am. Can you kindly renew these items on the system for me, as one item is due today and I still need to use it.
Regards.

Unfortunately the library back up was running late. I have renewed your books and they are now due 26-3-08.

When trying to re-new a book online, it is always unsuccessful with this message coming out "Your record is in use by system.  Please try again later."

It sounds like you were trying to renew your Library item while the library system was performing a back up. It is best to wait   and try again later to renew, if you find the same message please ring the loans desk 49215850.

I am in my fist year at uni and am trying to start my very first assignment. Part of the assignment is that i need books so i  go on to newcat and order all the books i need. I pick all that are on the central coast thinking this will be nice and easy for me to get them and also to get them QUICKLY!. I go out to the library and the librarian only has one book ready for me and says the others will be a couple of days so i say just tell him i will wait and i will get them all at the same time.
I come home and later i check to see how my requests are going and to see whether any more are in yet. To my HORROR all the books but the one that he wanted to give me have been wiped off my request list in my library.
I ring the info line and got put onto a librarian. I explain what happened and she told me that there must of been an error and that i have to request them all again. Luckily i had written them all down so then i take my time and effort again to go through and request the same books again.
The next day around lunchtime i go on to 'my library' to see how my requests and to my HORROR once again all but the one book have been wiped again. I ring the same line and get put onto another librarian and she tells me that i cant request books from the central coast library i have to just go in there and get them…… Yet the guy in the library said they would be a couple of days and then the lady that arvo said that i just have to request them again and everything will be fine.
This is not good enough! This is my first ever assignment and it is scary enough as it is without getting stuffed around by the library 3 times! I need these books to start my assignment and now 48 hours after trying to organise all this together i finally may be able to start it.
That is of course if all the books i want are still there! I am really not happy about this at all.

Most book are available to be paged from Ourimbah Library and collected either from Auchmuty or Huxley, with the exception of Short loan items. If you could send me the list of books you need I could investigate why they were stopped from coming up. The best phone to ring with a query like this would be the loans desk 49215850.

i find this new website unacceptable. where is Super Search?

Thank you for your feedback. The new catalogue is still a bit of a work in progress. The Journals search page is to be enhanced,  and will include a link to SuperSearch. In the meantime, SuperSearch is available from the Journal Database page at: http://www.newcastle.edu.au/service/library/database/index.h…etc
