FIRST AID INDUCTION

There are currently over 100 First Aid Officers (FAO's) covering the Callaghan, City, Ourimbah and other University staffed sites. a list of all FAO's can be accessed from this link.

How to become a FAO

When a School identifies a need for a FAO in a particular location, nominations are called. The Head of School confirms nominations with the Health and Safety Team, and the nominated person must contact Diane Bunch in Health and Safety on ext. 17721, email diane.bunch@newcastle.edu.au to undertake FAO training.

It is the responsibility of the new FAO to read the FAO induction documents and complete the Confirmation of Induction form, sign and forward the form to Health and Safety, Human Resource Services to ensure details are entered on the Concept database for payment of the FAO Allowance.

Certificates

To ensure your First Aid Certificate remains current you must undertake an annual CPR refresher. CPR refreshers are conducted on campus throughout the year. Dates and times are advertised through Leadership and Staff Development.

Expiry of First Aid Certificate

Certificates must be renewed (4) four weeks prior to expiry date. It is the responsibility of an FAO to contact Health and Safety to renew certificates.

Dates and times for Senior First Aid Recertification courses will be advertised in the First Aid Newsletter. If your First Aid Certificate is due for renewal close to the scheduled dates, email Diane Bunch in Health and Safety - diane.bunch@newcastle.edu.au - to reserve a place or advise her if you are unable to attend so that alternate arrangements can be made.

A copy of certificates and any renewals must be forwarded to the Health & Safety Team, Human Resource Services to enable processing of allowances.

Sign Posting

First Aid signage can be arranged through Facilities Management, ext. 16501 by completing a Maintenance Request Form.

Identification Photographs

Identification photographs can be arranged throughJessica Scott  Ext: 17734. The cost of photographs is borne by the FAO's school.

The photograph is for display on the Health & Safety noticeboard of your building, with contact details of your name, room number, floor level, building name and telephone number placed prominently alongside the photograph.
