If you are injured or become ill through the course of your employment and believe that it was your work that was a substantial contributing factor to your injury or illness you should consult a doctor (registered medical practitioner) to seek appropriate medical treatment as soon as possible after the injury or illness becomes apparent.
The University Health Service have specific skills and experience in managing workers compensation injuries, however, employees retain the right to choose their own treating doctor.
The worker should advise the treating doctor that they believe the injury is work related. After examination, the doctor may issue a WorkCover Medical Certificate. On this certificate the doctor will provide details of how the injury or illness occurred (as described to them by the patient), their diagnosis, recommended treatment and whether or not they believe that work was a substantial contributing factor to the patients injury or illness.
The WorkCover Medical Certificate must be forwarded to the Workers Compensation Officer as soon as practicable after it has been issued. If possible, as your doctor to have a copy faxed through to the Workers Compensation Officer so we can start work on your claim.
