John Turner Memorial Lecture

The John Turner Memorial Lecture is held in memory of Dr John Turner, a former history lecturer at the University of Newcastle and WEA Hunter, and one of the foremost historians in the Hunter Valley who had a keen interest in local convict history.

Guest Speaker:  Gionni Di Gravio, B.A. (Classics), Grad Dip. Info Science (Archives and Records),
was appointed University Archivist in 2005. In December 2007 he was appointed Chair of the Coal River Working Party, a group of University and community members established to research and interpret Newcastle's past.

Topic:  Conquering Everest: future proofing Newcastle's glorious memory

 

Abstract: The lecture will explore the initiatives that the University, through the Coal River Working Party, is now taking to continue the work of Dr John Turner with regards to researching, documenting and promoting the history of Newcastle and the Region.
